In May the
Elementary aged kids will be hearing Bible Stories that involve examples of
PATIENCE.We are
defining patience as, “waiting until later for what you want now.” In other
words, we are trying to help children understand the value of delayed
gratification. We want to help children recognize that God, who has been very
patient with them, is in the process of developing patience as a characteristic
in their life as well. Here is the lineup of Bible stories and bottom line
truths:
May 2
Memory
verse: “The end of a matter is better
than its beginning, and patience is better than pride.”
Ecclesiastes 7:8, NIV
Bottom
line: If you don't wait, it could cost
you. Esau trades
for a bowl of soup because he let his stomach go to his head (Genesis
25)
May 9
Memory
verse: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy,
peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”
Galatians 5:22-23, NIV
Bottom line: Don't get tired of doing the right thing. If
only the Israelites had kept on following God instead of the crowd! (Exodus 19;
32)
May 16
Memory
verse: “Be completely humble and gentle; be patient,
bearing with one another in love.” Ephesians
4:2, NIV
Bottom line: Don't miss out because you think you can't wait.
Have you ever thought about what Joshua and the Israelites would've missed if
they hadn't followed God's marching orders? (Joshua 3; 6)
May 23
Memory
verse: “A man who burns with anger stirs up fights. But
a person who is patient calms things down.” Proverbs
15:18, NIrV
Bottom
line: If you don't wait, it could hurt others. Sometimes
it is just easy to act without thinking. We will unpack a verse in Proverbs
where Solomon talks about controlling your anger and being patient. (Proverbs
15:18)
May 30
Memory
verse:“A man's wisdom gives him patience.” Proverbs 19:11a, NIV
Bottom
line: For the fifth week, we'll depart
from the norm and focus on a "faith skill," that of prayer: Take prayer out of the box. Are you in
or out of the box when it comes to prayer? (James 5:13; 1 Thessalonians 5:17;
Romans 8:26)
