How Does Woodridge Celebrate Communion?

Woodridge celebrates Communion (The Lord’s Supper) approximately once a month at our Sunday services. Anyone who has a faith relationship with Jesus is invited and encouraged to join us in the celebration of Communion. Typically we pass bread and then eat it at the same time. We then pass small cups that are filled with grape juice and again drink the cups at the same time. We believe the bread and cup are symbols that help us remember all that God has done for us through Jesus’ death and resurrection. The Lord’s Supper refers to the fact that Jesus initiated this celebration at the Passover meal with his earliest followers. Communion refers to the fact that we have a united relationship with God and one another.

I Have Young Children.
When Can They Join Me in Celebrating Communion?

Children who have made a personal faith commitment to Jesus Christ are welcome to participate in Communion with their parents.  As in all other areas of life, spiritual growth occurs uniquely for each child. At Woodridge, we walk alongside parents and kids to help them in their spiritual growth. On April 18, 2010 we will host a Communion Class to provide information to assist parents and their children in determining when a child is ready to take communion. (Baptism is covered as well.) This class is followed by a special Family Communion Service on May 2, 2010 where Treasureland children are invited to celebrate Communion for the first time. You may contact Diane Gove for more information. Here is a link to our Communion Worksheet to help your child prepare!
